Description

Rich, fudgy Air Fryer Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes with a sweet cherry surprise baked inside — made from a simple cake mix and ready in about 20 minutes with no oven required. The easiest chocolate-and-cherry dessert you'll make all year.

Ingredients 

For the cupcakes:

  • 15.25 ounces devil's food cake mix, 1 box
  • 20 ounces cherry pie filling, about 1 can
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the topping:

  • 16 ounces chocolate frosting
  • 20 reserved cherries, from the pie filling

Instructions

  • Reserve cherries. Spoon out about 20 cherries from the cherry pie filling and set aside in a small bowl for topping.
  • Make the batter. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the devil's food cake mix, the remaining cherry pie filling, eggs, and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fill the liners. Fill cupcake liners about ⅔ full with batter.
  • Air fry. Place several cupcakes in the air fryer basket (don't crowd them) and air fry at 320°F for 9–12 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Work in batches until all the batter is used.
  • Cool. Let the cupcakes cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
  • Frost and finish. Spread or pipe chocolate frosting onto each cupcake and top with one reserved cherry. Serve and enjoy.
