Homemade Heinz 57 steak sauce made with six pantry ingredients in five minutes. Tangy, sweet, and slightly spicy — perfect for steaks, burgers, meatloaf, and dipping.
Ingredients
1cupketchup
¼cupWorcestershire sauce
2tablespoonsyellow mustard
4teaspoonslemon juice
4dropshot pepper sauce, adjusted to taste
½teaspoonkosher salt
1teaspoonmolasses, for deeper color and a closer match to the bottle
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, lemon juice, hot pepper sauce, and salt until completely smooth with no lumps of mustard remaining.
Taste and adjust. Add more lemon juice for tang, brown sugar or molasses for sweetness, or more hot pepper sauce for heat.
Optional but recommended: Transfer to a small saucepan and simmer over low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. This mellows the raw ketchup flavor and deepens the sauce.
Cool to room temperature, then transfer to an airtight jar or container.
Refrigerate. The sauce is ready to use immediately, but the flavor improves significantly after 4 hours or overnight.

Ketchup matters. Your sauce will taste like the ketchup you build it on — use one you like.
